Whilst vibration plate benefits have undoubtedly taken the fitness world by storm over recent years, they’re not for everyone. As with any form of exercise equipment, caution must be taken.

In this blog, we’ll explore who cannot use vibration plates. We’d love to say vibration technology is suitable for everyone, but there are certain risks to be aware of. And, as always, safety should be your no.1 priority when working out.

Who Cannot Use Vibration Plates?

Vibrating plates emit powerful whole-body vibrations, causing muscles to contract a huge 50x more than usual. As a result, here are specific groups of people who simply can’t use these devices safely. These include:

People with cardiovascular conditions

If you have heart disease or suffered a heart attack in the past, vibrating plates should be avoided. This also applies if you’ve experienced a stroke, have a pacemaker, or been diagnosed with a blood clotting disorder.

The intense vibrations could aggravate such conditions, and place unnecessary stress on your cardiovascular system.

Those with muscle or bone injuries

If you’ve recently suffered a sprain or tear, power plates could slow recovery. Increased muscle contractions as a result of intense vibration can make certain injuries worse. Essential stitches could also become dislodged.

Pregnant women

Very little research has been done to investigate the effects of whole-body vibrations on pregnancy. To be as safe as possible, we don’t recommend using a vibration plate if you’re pregnant. In fact, the vast majority of vibrating plate models specifically warn against it.

People fitted with plating or pins

If you’ve undergone a procedure to have objects like pins or metal plating fitted, vibrating plates aren’t a good idea. Such fittings could become dislodged by whole-body vibration, causing them to alter their position. This could cause intense pain, and may require further procedures to repair them.

Always Consult Your GP

All medical conditions present themselves differently, with individual cases varying hugely. Whilst the above groups of people probably should avoid vibration plates, certain cases will obviously be milder than others.

To be 100% sure, it’s always recommended to consult your GP for detailed advice. As mentioned, vibration plates can provide a huge range of benefits. From muscle toning to boosting circulation, they’re definitely worth a try provided you’ve been given the go-ahead by a medical professional.

So, if you were wondering who cannot use vibration plates, you’ve now gained a little more information. Consulting your GP is definitely the first step if you’re unsure, as you’ll receive professional advice you simply won’t get elsewhere.
